Well those of us left here in New Zealand are working, while the majority of the Te Maara staff are in Tonga at a wedding for one of our Manu Karakia, Michael Tamihere.
Anyhow, on Thursday night I went to Hemi Tapu in Hamilton for Komiti Maori, which is the governing committee for that archdeaconry. And they have asked me to take monthly services at Hemi Tapu in Frankton - Hamilton. So if you're ever in Hamilton on the last Sunday of the month at 9am come on round to Hemi Tapu on Massey St. It will be awesome!!
Not much else has been happening. Ive been getting ready for witner school which should be awesome!! If your not coming you should!!! Its the place to be these school holidays!
Other than that the last two weeks have just been meetings and taking Bishop Ngarahu places. On Wednesday we went to Auckland for a Hui, Te Runanga Whakawhanaungatanga o nga Hahi o Aotearoa. In others words a meeting of representatives from all demonimations. A time for Maori to get together and talk about issues that face all Maori denominations.
Well it was just +Rahu and I that turned up really. There was a Kaumatua there from the methodist church who was hosting the meeting. But we still had a good korero.
And then yesterday I took +Rahu to a tangi in Whakatane. One of our minita-a-iwi died.
So its been a lot of driving lately! Which is Kei te Pai!
Heoi ano whanau.
Thats me. Check in mid July andIll have photos from winter school
Well since my Hui in Hamilton I have been on the go. After the Hui as I mentioned I had a tangi on at my Marae. While there I got the flu!
After the tangi on Saturday the 9th of June we had a fundraising Gala at Tuhourangi Marae in Te Puke. This went really well, we raised over $5000.00 which is awesome! This will go towards the Rohe's levies. Bishop Ngarahu, Whaea Kamana and myself journeyed to Te Puke for this event, along with the locals it was fantastic! Good to see the people pulling together to work for a common goal, to fund our Hui Amorangi. On Sunday 10th Bishop, Whaea Kamana and I returned for the local service which also went well. I played the keyboard which I really enjoyed!
Then it was off to Gisborne for a Te Maara team retreat! This was very effective! We had some good korero, and discussed the Manu Karakia programme for Te Manawa o Te Wheke and Tai Rawhiti. Very exciting stuff, so watch this space for develpoements. This was also my first time to the original Te Rau Kahekatea! WOW! What a flash place! It was nice to see Maori having such good facilities!!
Well folks, again I apologise for no photos, I'm not very good in that department!
Last weekend we had a Rangatahi Hui at Hemi Tapu in Hamilton and it was 'da bomb.' There were 30 Rangatahi there that ranged from 12 - 30 years in age. We had some awesome Kapahaka tutors, kohanga teachers, Rangatahi and we had a choice weekend. It all started on Firday night, and we played heaps of games and chilled out. We had Karakia, and the singing was FANTASTIC! After Karakia we had whakawhanaungatanga and we played some games to get to know eachother! This was heaps of fun. Then we had some korero about "Who is God?" and did some preparation for our Bible study the next day. After that we all chilled out and the younger ones watched a DVD while us older Koro's had some cool korero!! Then bed time! Satuday morning started with Karakia and breakfast, then we had a morning Bible Study. We had a korero about the text for that Sunday (John 16) Each Rangatahi wrote a 50 word reflection on the text, and then we wrote some prayers for Sundays service! After that it was off for our fun activity.... TEN PIN BOWLING! This was awesome, congratulations to the winner... Me! LOL Nah, Alex. Then we came back to the Hall and had a rehearsal for Sunday mornings service. Everybody that was at the Hui participated in the service. Some did readings, some officiated, some read prayers. It was a awesome service with HEAPS of youth participation. It was the 476 service with a bit of a Rangatahi twist! Kool!! And then it was home time!! However this was one awesome Hui and we are going to keep having them every 2 months!! The next one is going to be in Thames!!!
And now there is a tangi on at my Marae. But what a kool weekend!!
